Project Profile: Building a Community

Building a Community…

The Grande Prairie Activity & Reception Centre was built to serve the Grande Prairie and surrounding community as both an emergency response centre and a multi-purpose activity centre.

To secure Canada Infrastructure Program funding and fit within the City of Grande Prairie’s capital budget, the new Activity and Reception Centre had to be completed in only nine months at a cost if $4.1 million. Energy efficiency was important to keep operating costs low and the facility needed to have architectural elements to fit within the surrounding community.

A pre-engineered structure was the best solution to meet this aggressive timeline and budget with an affordable life cycle cost. The facility was constructed with a cavity filled roof and wall system consisting of polystyrene thermal breaks to achieve an outstanding R30 wall and R40 roof!

This impressive 20,000 square foot pre-engineered structure, manufactured by Behlen Industries, constructed by Atkinson Construction (ACL) Ltd. and professionally photographed by Plaid Interactive, was featured in the Grande Prairie Construction Association’s 2023 magazine: “Building the Grande Prairie and Peace Region 2023” (https://issuu.com/delcomminc/docs/gpca_2023_web).
