Message from the Chair: Summer 2025

Despite the impact of tariffs and labour shortages, Alberta's non-residential construction sector is experiencing significant growth, driven by investment into major projects. Capital construction expenditures account for a relatively large proportion of Alberta’s GDP, primarily from the oil and gas sector (Alberta Government). Engineered Metal Buildings provide a unique building solution for both light and heavy industrial projects: cost effective, easier and quicker to install, innovative to meet stringent energy codes, environmentally friendly, durable and customizable.

Retaliatory tariffs on imported steel, including engineered metal buildings, is putting additional stress on Canadian building manufacturers and steel and panel producers, resulting in longer lead times and higher building costs. The impact is likely to last until the end of 2025 – hopefully resulting in some reprieve in the first quarter of 2026.

Trade and global economic uncertainty could impede growth and weigh on capital investment. Diversifying trade and tapping into emerging markets provides opportunity for growth. Responsibly exploiting our rich natural resources is crucial for long-term sustainability, economic growth and fiscal viability and resiliency.

Your AMBA board remains committed to working with you, our industry partners. Your support, engagement and feedback are essential to strengthen and build our industry.
